 and guests from all over the world come to sing.

There are 56 ethnic groups in our country, 12 of which live harmoniously in the mysterious land of Guangxi. The diversity of its culture and customs has created "Sanyuesan" ~ on the third day of the third lunar month.

我们国家有56个民族，其中有12个民族和谐地生活在广西这片神秘土地之上，其文化与习俗多样化造就了农历三月初三的“三月三”。

农历三月初三，俗称“三月三”，壮族的民歌节。

The third day of the third month of the lunar calendar, commonly known as "March 3rd", is the day when the Zhuang people hold Folk Song Fairs.

Singer Genius Liu Sanjie (Immortal Singer Liu Sanjie)

刘三姐从小爱唱山歌，成年以后长得宛如出水芙蓉一般，容貌绝伦。她的山歌遐尔闻名，故远近歌手经常聚集其村，争相与她对歌、学歌。

Liu Sanjie loved singing folk songs since childhood, and as she grew up, she looked like a lotus flower just emerging from the water, with an unparalleled appearance. Her folk songs are so famous that singers from far and near often gather in her village to compete with her and learn from her.

后世的人为了纪念这位歌仙，便在每年农历三月初三刘三姐“成仙”的日子，唱山歌三天三夜，歌圩就此形成。

In order to commemorate the Immortal Singer, the later generations would sing folk songs for three days and three nights on the third day of the third lunar month every year on the day when Liu Sanjie "became an immortal fairy", thus the Folk Song Fair was formed.

Singing folk songs is the most important activity of this festival.Zhuang people are very fond of singing.During the Folk Song Festival,people will gather in the fields to hold song fairs.Their songs are mostly about life,work, love and historical events.

唱山歌是这个节日最重要的活动。壮族人非常喜欢唱歌。在民歌节，人们会聚集在山间田野举行“歌会”。歌曲大多是关于生活、工作、爱情和历史事件的。

The festival is sometimes referred to as Zhuang Valentine's Day.On this occasion,single young men and women dress in their best and go to the song fair. Customarily,the singing contest consists of two camps with boys in one camp and girls in the other.Singers often edit and sing songs randomly following the request of the other side.As one song falls,another rises,and the whole spot buzzes with excitement.By singing folk songs in an antiphonal style,the young men and women quickly come to know each other.If the boy and girl find each other congenial,they will exchange

Bamboo pole dancing is another highlight of the Folk Song Festival.Generally,there are 10 bamboo poles needed:two are the pillow poles,and the other eight are laid across the pillow poles.Eight young men hold the eight bamboo poles'ends facing each other in pairs. They will raise and lower the bamboo poles to the accompaniment of music.Girls jump and hop between the poles while singing and performing.Those whose ankles touch the bamboo poles are eliminated from the game.The last girl left is the winner.Visitors are also invited to join in this dance.Underlying this dance is the auspicious meaning:success in career and life for the winner.

竹竿舞是民歌节的另一个亮点。通常需要十根竹竿，有两根是枕杆，另八根横放在枕杆上。八个年轻人手握八根竹竿的末端，两两相对。他们会随音乐的节奏将竹竿抬起和放下。女孩们边唱边表演，在竹竿间跳来跳去。脚踝碰到竹竿的人会被淘汰，留在最后的女孩就是赢家。游客们也会被邀请加入竹竿舞。这个舞蹈有着吉祥的寓意：对赢家来说意味着事业有成、生活美满。

During the festival,Zhuang people use wild flowers and leaves to produce natural dyes to color the glutinous rice,usually red,yellow,black,purple,and white.They set up singing tents in their villages,and put out the five-color glutinous rice in the tents.People young and old sing and dance around the tents,and eat the five-color glutinous rice together.

节日期间，壮族人会用野花和叶子制作天然染料给糯米上色，通常是红色、黄色、黑色、紫色和白色。他们会在村子里搭起歌篷，在歌篷里摆好五色糯米饭。男女老少都会围着帐篷载歌载舞，一起吃五色糯米饭。

The Origin of the Folk Song Festival

民歌节的起源        

There are many legendary stories about the Folk Song Festival. One of the most popular stories is about Liu Sanjie.

关于民歌节有许多传说故事，最广为流传的故事是关于刘三姐的。

There was once a Zhuang girl called Liu Sanjie,who was very good at singing.She loved ordinary people and hated the evil landlords.She often inspired people with folk songs.The landlords were jealous of her singing, and afraid of her courage.They tried to forbid Liu Sanjie from singing,but failed.Later Liu Sanjie was persecuted by the landlords.She was pushed into a pond.Instead of sinking into the water,she flew to heaven on the back of a carp in the pond and became the "Singing Goddess".In order to commemorate her,people make the third day of the third lunar month the Folk Song Festival.This is the day she ascended to heaven and became a goddess.

从前有个壮族女孩叫刘三姐，很会唱歌。她爱护百姓、嫉恶如仇，常用民歌鼓舞人心。地主们嫉恨她的歌声，也畏惧她的勇气。他们曾试图阻止刘三姐唱歌，但失败了。后来刘三姐遭到地主们的迫害，被推入池塘，但她没有沉入水底，而是骑着池塘中的鲤鱼升入天庭，成为了“歌仙”。为了纪念她，人们将三月三定为民歌节，这天是她升天成仙的日子。
