Biden: The U.S. has taken over Afghanistan’s airspace
According to the White House official website, on August 16, local time, U.S. President Biden said in a speech on the situation in Afghanistan that the U.S. had closed the embassy in Kabul, evacuated its diplomats and had taken over the airspace in Afghanistan.
Biden said, "Our military is working hard to ensure the safety of the airport and to ensure that military and civilian flights continue. We are taking over air traffic control. We have safely closed the embassy and transferred diplomats. Our diplomats are now concentrated at the airport."
He added, “In the next few days, we plan to transport thousands of American citizens working and living in Afghanistan. We will continue to provide support for the safe evacuation of allied employees who remain there.”
