Dedicated educator is on a mission to revive rural education in a remote mountainous community and provide the best education to its children, one school at a time.
With her ponytail and big, square glasses, Cheng Feng looks every bit the schoolteacher. Yet, to many
of her students, the 33-year-old is more than that. Cheng's care for her rural students has extended beyond the classroom and makes her a mother figure to them all.
During the just past summer vacation, Cheng didn't take time off but paid home visits to rural students
of the Liling Primary School, which is located in the mountains more than 120 kilometers from the central area of Poyang county, East Chin's Jiangxi province.
Most students have been left behind by their parents, who have to go to work far away from home and
are looked after by their grandparents.
"Seeing these special families and special children is what made me realize the importance of rural
education, and it is one of the major reasons why I have stuck around all these years," says Cheng, who
also grew up in Poyang.
Since learning that one of her students, Tan Yeting, and her brother, were just depending on the small
income of their grandparents' handmade broom business, Cheng would pay regular visits to Tan's home.

"I feel like I can talk to her about anything,"she adds.
Cheng voluntarily chose to move to the school last year after she learned it was in need of faculty
members. She has since helped to improve the teaching facilities, and went out of her way to reach children scattered around the surrounding rural area and persuade them to come to school.
Thanks to her efforts, approximately 200 children in the neighborhood have been able to enjoy a better education.

Fewer than 250 people have feasted their eyes on the Titanic since it was discovered on the seabed of

OceanGate Expeditions announced its second annual expedition to the wreck(沉船) in the summer of

NASA is making preparations to send a crew to the moon who will explore the lunar surface with the hope of constructing a stable habitat. Although the American space agency focuses on just sending astronauts, other companies are looking further into the future for when humans will colonize the natural satellite.
Experts at Money, a company for consumer credit products, released the first-ever moon loan guide that reveals living on the lunar surface would cost S325,067 a month.
"With the Earth becoming increasingly populated and space technology advancing, it won't be long before lunar living becomes the new normal," reads the study. The team from Money used various factors to calculate the cost of a house on the moon: raw materials needed to build a house, the special materials needed to build on the moon's atmosphere, astronauts required to travel to build, and the average cost of transporting materials to the moon.
According to the moon loan guide, the first fully functioning house on the moon would be $48,454,063, which is a high price for a home. The price includes adding life-saving details to homes such as air seals, industrial-strength air-conditioners and heaters."Generating energy is vital when living in such extreme conditions, and therefore the cost of some supplies may force you to consider some alternative options. The most efficient way to generate electricity on the moon is to buy a small nuclear reactor costing S1.3 million,"Money shares in the study."Alternatively, 34 solar panels would generate enough electricity to run one house and cost only S23,616 in comparison."
The guide also reveals the most ideal locations on the moon, with"Sea of Rains"being considered "the perfect family suburb"— this region sits at the north and is one of the largest impact craters (陨石撞 击坑) in the Solar System.
32.What's the purpose of NASA sending a crew to the moon?
A. To encourage companies to release moon loan.
B. To colonize the moon alone.
C. To explore the moon for natural resources.
D. To build a lasting living place on the moon.
33.Which of the following was not considered when the team estimated the cost of a lunar house?
A. Materials needed to build a house on the moon.
B. The cost of looking for the most ideal location on the moon.
C. Astronauts needed to travel to build a house on the moon.
D. The average cost of transporting materials to the moon.
高三英语第5页,共8页
34.What can we infer from the study?
A. Lunar living won't take long to become a reality
B. The first house on the moon will be the most expensive home.
C. You will definitely buy a nuclear reactor to generate electricity on the moon
D. The perfect location on the moon for living is,the largest impact crater in the Solar System. 35.What's the text mainly about?
A. The first loan guide about living on the moon.
B. The moon—the most ideal living place for humans.
C.NASA will send astronauts to the moon.

I am often asked how I learned to speak, read and write Chinese. The short answer, in my case, was a combination of good fortune and hard work.
36 .I have a particularly visual memory-very helpful for characters. Another big part of the good fortune is how early I started Chinese. All students in Australia are required to study a foreign language from Grade 7. The options at my school were Japanese, German, and Chinese. My mother had studied German in school. My sisters were studying Japanese in their primary school. 37
The first year was fun, but then our teacher moved to China and the replacement was ill-equipped for the task. The next year my family moved to the US. For the next two years I studied Chinese with a tutor who came to my home. She was my first native Chinese speaking teacher. She had been living in the US for over a decade. We got along well and I have many fond memories of our lessons. 38
Back in Australia to start Grade 11, my new school was chosen partly because it offered advanced Chinese classes. 39 . I fell in love with China for no real reason. Something about the place just attracted me
By the time I arrived in Beijing in February 2014, I could already read and write Chinese pretty
well. 40 ! Instead of grasping for ways to translate my English thoughts, I began to understand how to form Chinese thoughts.
A.So I chose Chinese
B. I nearly decided to give up Chinese
C. She told me many interesting stories about living in the US
D.Grammar patterns I had been using for years suddenly made sense
E.In Grade 12 I had an opportunity to travel to China with a school trip
F.I seriously doubt whether I would have continued Chinese without her influence G. Part of the good fortune is that I have a brain that seems built for language study
